Tony is known the world over as a legendary entertainer. Yet as a child growing up in Astoria, NY, one of his first career ambitions was to be a painter and this passion for art has been as much a part of his life as his love for music and performing.
Here you can enjoy the work of Tony Bennett the gifted painter.
MONTRÉAL EN LUMIÈRE and the Galerie of the Maison du Festival Rio Tinto Alcan are proud to present the Canadian premiere of Tony Bennett: the Art of Anthony Benedetto, a remarkable free exhibit of forty artworks by internationally renowned artist and singer Tony Bennett, presented from February 14 to April 14, 2013.
A singer long adored by his Montreal fans, Tony Bennett quickly found a place in the heart of the permanent Festival collection with his piece Louis Armstrong, created as a guest artist in 2000. For this 14th edition of MONTRÉAL EN LUMIÈRE, the legendary artist offers us an immense privilege: presenting a major Canadian premiere featuring a selection of some of his loveliest pieces, signed Anthony Benedetto. The exhibition includes 41 water colours and 2 sketches created between 1986 and 2012, including three original paintings which are part of the permanent collection of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, one of the largest museum complexes in the world. Do not miss this unique opportunity to join us in the Galerie of the Maison du Festival Rio Tinto Alcan and discover another facet of the very talented Tony Bennett, accomplished painter and watercolorist, whose work will transport you with its emotive power and beauty.
A self-described museum fanatic, the artist makes time on his many world tours to visit and pore over the masterpieces of art history exhibited all over the planet, taking endless inspiration from the works of the masters in creating his own pieces. Landscapes, portraits, still lifes, urban scenes... all styles make Tony Bennett smile, as he communicates his boundless love for life in every piece he imagines and creates.
